On behalf of WP Floor Solution B.V., sound and vibration measurements were conducted on a number of flooring finish variants that can be used in fitness rooms.

The purpose of the measurements is to gain insight into the acoustic quality of several new materials developed for fitness flooring. The measurements were carried out on October 13, 2023, in the Acoustic Laboratory of Peutz bv in Mook.

The measurements were performed in a contact sound insulation measurement room (improvement), where this room is equipped with a 14 cm concrete base floor (a so-called “Heavyweight reference floor” according to NEN-EN-ISO 10140-5:2021).

Given the nature of the relevant sounds in fitness activities, such as dropping and placing weights, etc., the occurring maximum sound levels LAmax were always measured in the “fast” meter setting.

All following values are always the average of the three microphone positions, whereby each drop test was performed three times and again averaged over these three drop tests.

The weights used are a steel ball of 3.25 kg, a Kettlebell of 24 kg, and a Dumbbell of 22 kg.
